Talkeetna is a cute little town with a downtown about 3 blocks long by 2 blocks wide. It is all very rustic, clean with flowers planted all over the main street.
A couple of shops and several great choices for restaurants. Mountain High Pizza Pie is great for dinner and The Roadhouse for breakfast.
Walk to the small cemetary that has a neat little memorial to climbers that have died on the near by mountains. It lists the climbers name, age and country in the year they died with records going back to the 30's.There is also a museum (not open in the evening, though).
Stop in the Ranger station for a video on climbing the mountain. Climbers, check in after being on Mt McKinley and you may get a chance to visit with them.
