Talk about this trip (1)
Hi...

A French traveller had recommended this place to stay in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, and we went there last week (back in Tashkent this week to get visas).

It was a wonderful place to stay, and we wanted to share it with this forum.

Among all the touristy traps of Bukhara, Madina and Ilyos opened up their house in the center of the city. Ilyos built a room by hand, and since he's a perfectionist, every piece of the room is laid out well.

There is a hot shower and bathroom in the room itself, and for sleeping there are simple mattresses laid out on the floor. The room itself is quite big and well lit (Central Asia is not known for its bright hotel rooms, we've come to realize).

The price is $10 per person per night, Ilyos's huge homemade dinners are $4 pp, and the breakfasts are $2.

The address is 18 Mehtar Anbar Street, which is a bit hard to find. From the Lyabi Hauz center, go up the steps to the Asia Bukhara Hotel. There, you'll see the bazaar selling wall hangings and carpets. Go through the bazaar to the other side (opposite the Asia Hotel) and walk down the dirt street. You'll see a tiny "18" hanging about 5 minutes' walk down this street, on the left side.

Turn into the alley, and Madina and Ilyos's door is the blue one.

I'll try to post some pictures.

We've recommended this place to other travellers while in Tashkent, and we plan on going back this week after we sort out our visas.
