I think the best place to stay is on Medano beach. The view is amazing. This is a great location because it is a short walk to the marina, which is where many activities, shopping, and restaurants are located. It's the only swimmable beach so there is alot of action here...jetskies, glass bottom boats, bars and restaurants right on the sand. The resorts here overlook the sea of cortez and the lands end arch. The view is incredible but sometimes its blocked by enormous cruise ships. Still, it is worth paying slightly extra for a room with an ocean view.
It’s a short cab ride ($7.) to Cabo Wabo and other nightlife. Actually if you don’t mind walking at night it is about a 20 minute walk so you can save money in cab fare by staying on Medano beach.
You need alot of patience for the street vendors. They are everywhere and they can be very annoying. They sell everything from silver to ceramics. You have to repeat “no thank you” about 100 times while walking on the beach or at the marina.
The time share people are even worse! They can be intolerable. They offer all kinds of savings on activities if you agree to see their presentations. It can be tempting but be careful because they take alot of your time and I heard some people were tricked into leaving deposits for activities and they lost their money.
The Mexican people are mostly helpful, and friendly. There are barely any policeman around and I was told this is because there is rarely any trouble in Cabo. Most of the police don’t even carry guns! It is a safe place although it doesn’t always seem that way at night and when you’re off the main roads around the hotels where it is dark and there are some shady looking people.
About 95% of the visitors are Americans, mainly from the west coast. Everyone speaks english and they accept American dollars everywhere. I went in September and there were some groups of guys on fishing trips or single women on vacation but most of the guests were couples. I guess it all depends when you go. I hear it gets pretty wild around spring break.
The food was delicious in most restaurants that we went to. Much more varied than in the mexican restaurants in the states. We drank the water and ice and had no problems.
Be careful when participating in any activities because there is no liability in Mexico. They are not afraid of lawsuits so it's not always safe. Use your own discretion.
In general it is a good time and a beautiful place. I would recommend it.
