Talk about this trip (3)
We were supposed to stay in Cancun at the beginning and end of our trip, but we discovered Akumal, which was amazing and only went back to Cancun when we had to go to the airport to fly home. Cancun is great if you want to party, but if you are looking for a romantic adventure Akumal was amazing. Cenote diving is near, as well as Xel-Ha and Tulum. Our hotel in Akumal opened onto the beach and was about $50 a night cheaper than the one we were supposed to stay in in Cancun, which was no where near the beach. There was a bar within walking distance that had swings instead of stools and a restruant with amazing food that was done up to look like a tree house lit with torches. One night there was a wedding reception that shut down the resturant, so the host simply carried a table and torch onto the beach and the waiter served us there. It was a honeymoon that you see in movies and think doesn't exist in the real world.

Oh yeah, and all the exploring of Merida, the first European town on this side of the world, and the ruined Mayan cities was very exciting. It absolutely satisfied our inner explorers
