Although Kecak Dance is very popular and performed in many different places in Bali, the one in performed in Uluwatu was always known to be the best. I’ll say that they really know how to entertain the audience, very interesting and interactive. As a bonus, you’ll get to enjoy the beautiful Uluwatu’s sunset from your audience seat. The show starts at about 6 PM daily, buy of course, you’ll have to come early to take the seat looking at the West for sunset view. Normally, they will have all seat fully seated. In holiday season, you’ll just wish that they don’t have to send you home because there is simply no place left. It’s an outdoor amphitheatre-like place, by the way, but I won’t bother bringing an umbrella because there has been no report about raining during show time. Wonder how?
The only music played along the show comes from human voice. Hence, the name is Kecak (try imitating the sound ‘kecak’ repeatedly with some tones!). The story is taken from the epic of Ramayana, a well-known Hindu tale about Rama and Sinta. Some characters will perform funny gestures, and even play along with some audiences. At the climax, fire will be ignited encircling a dancer (Hanoman), and he has to perform the trick to be able to escape and put down the fire with his bare feet. It was definitely a show everyone from anywhere at any age could enjoy. Last time, I sat next to a 5 years old Japanese who was really having fun watching the 2 hours show. Absolutely entertaining!
