Took a very interesting factory tour and had a very good time. The tour even includes a sample of their ice cream! How can you beat that?? This would be a great tour for kids, though the tour I was on was a bit crowded, and that was on a Tuesday afternoon. I can't imagine how busy it would be on a weekend! Worth the price of admission for sure, with a big gift shop to boot. No photography allowed however.

My friend and I stayed here for one night and the motel was decent. The wireless internet signal where we were (and paid $2.99 for) was very weak and was in and out, so I would not recommend paying for it. There are a lot of wi-fi hotspots in Austin, so go for those, including a Starbucks not too far from the motel. Otherwise though, it was clean and comfortable, as was the pool. The service was friendly as well. No loud noise, and it appeared the rooms had been recently renovated (maybe in the past year or two). Not the Ritz, but certainly a good stay for a night if on a budget, was my friend and I were. Convenient too - right off of I-35.
This is a place run by two sisters out of an old Avion trailer, with seating outdoors near Zilker Park. The crepes were out-of-this-world, and well worth the long line. We had heard about the sisters on either the food network or the travel channel - I don't recall, but decided we had to check it out when we got here.
If you are traveling to Austin, this is a must-visit for breakfast. It was so delicious I could have eaten the entire menu of crepes if I had the room for it. Definitely go and check it out!!!

We took a rather intimate 75-minute tour of the caverns(there were only five of us in the group) and it was well worth the money (just over $16 with my AAA discount). The caverns were breathtaking - better than the ones I saw in Virginia many years ago. If you are driving past I would definitely spring the money and make a stop. Just be sure you have on GOOD WALKING SHOES as the passages are narrow and slippery!! I would NOT recommend this for small kids at all, or the elderly.

Booked this hotel on Priceline for $54 and wasn't sure what to expect when I arrived. The hotel turned out to be very nice. We walked in and the gentleman at the service desk was very nice, even providing us a room with a view on the 4th floor (top floor). Rooms have been tastefully appointed, with nice firm beds, free internet, and classy decor. It's located not too far a walk from downtown and the Riverwalk, and not in a dangerous area of the city either. For the money, you really can't beat this - I was very impressed.

My friend and I were browsing the Riverwalk and decided on this restaurant due to it's inexpensive menu in comparison to other restaurants in the area, and no wait. Had I read the reviews before hand, I may never have even stopped, but I did, and was very pleased. I am not sure if there is new management or something, but from my experience it was nothing like some of the negative reviews left previously on here. I had excellent, attentive, prompt service; the food was also very good for the price, and my friend and I spent

The observation deck includes a 4d movie, but for $10.95 it still may sound kinda pricey. There is a $2.00 off coupon you can find in a San Antonio attractions coupon pamphlet widely available at hotels and tourist information places. I recommend looking for that to save some money.
I enjoyed it nonetheless. The views are unparalleled, and there are some exhibits about Texas history at the top. I think it's a must-see if you're going to San Antonio. I did not eat at the restaurant, so I can't review how it is. I do know it's priced in the mid-range ($20 - $30 entrees based on the menu), and it rotates, which is cool.

Was just here and had a decent time. The food was excellent and the service prompt. Big basket of free tortillas and awesome salsa to go with it. I could have eaten that for dinner. The restaurant is busy, so expect a 30 minute wait Thursday - Saturday nights, and it tends to be very LOUD, so I would not recommend it on a first date (unless you want to be yelling everything across the table). The decor is nice, but nothing really stood out in my mind as making this restaurant particularly memorable. Still, I can't dismiss good food, and this place has it. For that alone, it's worth a visit.

This cafe came recommended to me because it was gay owned and operated. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman at the counter who handed us a menu and told us to help ourselves to seating. My friend and I both ordered delicious pasta dishes, and the sodas had unlimited refills.
The cafe prides itself on it's homemade sandwich and pasta dishes. Breakfast is also apparently one of their specialties, but we did not have that (though they serve breakfast ALL DAY on Sundays, and until 11:00AM all other days). They also serve burgers, salads and soups, "Little Bites" of the kiddies, and a variety of blackboard specials, as well as wines and assorted spirits.
This is a great place on the edges of one of Galveston's historic districts. It's not on the main drags of the Strand and Seawall, so you'll have to do some walking (or a little driving) to get there, but it is well worth it. There is seating indoors as well as an outdoor patio, which is where we sat. We had a very enjoyable time and I would most definitely go there again.

My friend and I went and were really impressed by the beauty of the mansion, both inside and out. Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable. The tour lasted two hours, so be prepared to stand for most of that time. The tour takes you to the first and 2nd floor, plus the basement of the home. The third floor is not open to the public and used for storage.
I would highly recommend this tour to kick off a visit to Galveston. It will give you a sense of history for the city, and though no photographs are allowed, I will certainly remember the tour as being one of the more interesting ones I've taken. Cost $6, but $3 for students with ID.

I really enjoyed the monument and it's exhibits, but they charge $5 - $6 for everything, including entrance to certain exhibits in the monument, and entrance to the elevator to go to the top of the monument (and the views are only 270 - not 360). I don't think the view at the top was worth the price, as there isn't much to see at the top. This is definitely a monument best viewed from the ground. The exhibits inside are very interesting as well (the one on prominent Texas historical figures and history is free).
Battleship Texas is also on the grounds, but I think was $11 to get in to that (I know it was very expensive). Again, it was best viewed from the outside anyhow, unless you have an interest in warships.
It's worth a visit if you are in the Houston area. They do charge to park as well, but the fee is nominal. It's a shame, because the nickle and diming really takes away from the enjoyment of the park and the monument.

My friend and I ate here for dinner and were very impressed with the large portions and excellent taste. "Nothin' but Good Country Cookin'" is their slogan and it certainly hits the nail on the head. We went to the Houston location (there are 6 in Texas) and though the restaurant itself wasn't much to admire (it is in a small strip mall with large overhead florescent lighting but with interesting photos and decor on the walls), the service was fast, friendly, and for two people dinner and soft drinks came to
I love the pictures. My boyfriend and I are planning a pretty similar trip, so when I came across yours I was so excited. I've never been to TX, after reading your blog, I just cant wait now. Thanks so much, I have so many things I want to do now.
It's cool to read about what other people do when they come to our city.On the 13th I worked till 2am got about 5 hours of sleep the headed out to Freeport to celebrate my 40th b-day with family. Then just relaxed that night at home with a few beers.Loved the pictures funny how when we go on vacation were spend some much time sight seeing and running around we can wear ourselves out and if it wasn't for being in another location would feel like work lol !!
