Devin's GArden - The well-known section of Arches National Park has some of the most accessible arches in the Four Corners (
http://www.nps.gov/arch). Visit iconic Landscape Arch, the world's longest, then continue on the Devil's Garden Primitive Loop Trail to Double O Arch, two gaping holes punched through a sandstone wall. If you're prepared to venture off-trail, head north of Devil's Garden to Far Out Arch, a seldom visited span near Yellow Cat Wash.
For a more intimate introduction, tour Arches National Park's Lomatium Canyon on foot with Moab-based Desert Highlights. The eight-hour trip combines chimney climbing, technical scrambling, and a hundred-foot rappel, with first-rate instruction to put you deep inside the slots and high atop a sweeping mesa. After rocking out, bed down at the secluded Sorrel River Ranch, where rooms sit a mere ten feet from the banks of the Colorado River.
Catch the Perfect Sunset
The end of the day at Delicate Arch is something to behold. In the long light of late afternoon, the arch of Entrada sandstone, perched precariously on the edge of a bluff, seems to glow from within. What was pale red in the heat of the afternoon deepens to rich pink and fiery burgundy. Shadows stretch out to the horizon. Time seems to stand still. And even after the sun is gone and the sky slips toward deep purple, the arch continues to glow for longer than seems possible, burning its way into your memory.
Vitals: To reach the arch, take the one-and-a-half-mile (2.4-kilometer) Delicate Arch Trail (not the Delicate Arch Viewpoint) from Wolfe Ranch.
