Still in the planning stages of this trip. We are starting in SC, driving towards Chattanooga and making a loop for our week-long vacation.
Yes, we were in Nashville a few years ago (2003) and Gatlinburg last year. I guess you can say we love Tennessee! We have a time share in VA and have taken our TN trips with the help of our time share. Since both my husband & I work at the same place and have now finally reached 3 weeks of vacation, we decided to not only do our usual VA vacation but can now see TN again too ~ in the same year!
Back to TN ~ we love driving to our destinations, you see more that way! And Tennessee is within reach for driving ~ we live in northern Delaware, 45 min. south of the Philadelphia International airport, to give you an idea.
We are still trying to decide which way we'll go. Every VA vacation consists of I95 to Route 66 then I81. I would like to be able to convince hubby to go west then south and go thru WV & Kentucky. I would like to check out Lexington, ever been there?
As I had just recently found this area to post photos, etc., I have another post from Gatlinburg (2008), Nashville (2003) as well as some from spots in VA but put them all together. I have since learned to keep photos from different vacations in respect to years/locations!
I replied earlier but for some reason didn't go thru?!
Anyway.....I lived in New Castle, DE for a few years then moved to Bear, DE ~ I actually grew up near Hershey, PA.
I checked out New Castle, VA ~ wow that looks like a small town, kinda like the one I grew up in!
I'm sure you are gearing up for your trip, can't wait to see your photos. We've been looking online trying to see if we can find unusual places as well as the normal tourist stops for our Tennessee trip.
Haven't been to the New River Gorge Bridge yet. Not sure if that will be included with this trip. I've been told West Virginia is beautiful, we'll have to check it out one of these days!
When we go to our home resort in Massanutten, VA, the deer there are so plentiful and are used to people, it's really an adventure to endure. We feed them every year ~ they love bread/rolls ~ and not just the deer. We had all kinds of critters visit us.
We liked the outskirts of Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area as well ~ Gatlinburg was a great day trip ~ park one place & walk the town to see all the tourist stuff. Pigeon Forge has "Dick Clark's American Bandstand" as well as Dollywood. We really enjoyed our day trip to Cherokee, NC. It was neat to talk to real Cherokee Indians.
We are both anxious for our trip "back to TN"!
Have a safe & fun vacation!
