Oahu, Hawaii 2008

Get there early. We arrived shortly after 6 a.m. (with our own snorkeling gear) and avoided the movie altogether and got free parking. There was a short 5 minute overview. There is a trolley if you get to tired from snorkeling and don't want to walk back up to the parking lot (or down for that matter) The beach was fairly empty. It was Friday and weather was beautiful (Hawaii, right?) The sights were outstanding. We are beginning snorkelers, but had a great time, seeing many, many species of colorful fish. It's a "must-do!"

Waikiki is a long beach. If you are
near Diamond Head (East) then it is pretty packed with surfers, etc., but closer to Honolulu (west) there is plenty of room.

Did the Grand Circle Oahu Tour.
Trip moves along briskly.
Greg the tour guide was great.
You see a lot and still get back to your hotel with lots of daylight left.

Get the guided tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable, patient, and open to questions. This trip was very informative.

If you are claustrophobic, you will not be happy. Very tight quarters.
You tour the sub (Pearl Harbor Avenger) inside and topside. Really cool!

Fine dining. Not for families, somewhat limited menu.

It is a small beach east of Diamond Head. It was perfect for a wedding.

Pleased overall with the Gateway. It is a short walk (3 blocks through De Russy Park) to Waikiki beach/shopping strip. Service was gracious/excellent. Rooms are clean.

If you are going to Pearl Harbor get your tickets (free by the way) for the Arizona Memorial first. There will be a wait, even if you are early, but it is worth it. Enjoy a free Navy shuttle out to the Memorial. No bags, purses, etc. allowed. Take your camera, though.

go early, get tickets, then do Bowfin or Might Mo while you wait for your shuttle time.

It's not a huge aquarium, but is clean, well labeled, and good for kids.
