Phillipsville is the southern entrance of the Avenue of the Giants, a 31-mile world-famous scenic drive. It's a portion of old Highway 101, which parallels Freeway 101 with its 51,222 acres of redwood groves. The Avenue of the Giants is surrounded by Humboldt Redwoods State Park which has the largest remaining stand of old growth redwoods in the world.

The description of the huckleberry-peach pie at the Spruce Park Diner (in Draoulec's "American Pie" book) is what got me thinking of a Montana trip in the first place. This should be either Friday night dinner or Saturday breakfast.
Update: obsessive googling indicates the Spruce Park is CLOSED. Quelle dommage!!
Pie for strength! This eatery is located at the eastern entrance of Glacier National Park.

The crushing news about the Spruce Park Cafe sent me searching ... this excellent pie opportunity appeared as a blessed backup. Additionally, the bison burgers are said to be fabulous.
