A happy reunion! I have known Zerlina since 1986. When we graduated in 1991, we went on a trip to Europe. After 6 weeks, we parted ways in Athens, Greece. She was on her way to Istanbul, with ideas of going to Beijing to study Mandarin. I went to Grad school at University of Toronto. I ended up dropping out and moving to Tokyo

Our room had a balcony overlooking the main street plus our own electric kettle! It is BASIC but fine. A bit like indoor camping, or a mountain cabin. We had our own bathroom but the toilet in our first room didn't flush, so we moved to a 2nd room, which had a hole in the bathroom ceiling, but for 2 nights, we didn't worry about it.
A riverside guest house overlooking the main square, and at the start of the hiking trails.

Notes
Listed in the Lonely Planet Guide. Rooms are off a common balcony that overlooks the main square. We were there in low season so got a double room with private bath for Y50. Basic but good.
Hi Lisa - Great to get so much info so early. Hope you have a great time (I'm sure you will). I told John I am going to need an atlas to figure out where you are!! Be safe & well. Love Aunt Donna
I love the way you travel in China. I am originally from Beijing and now i live and work in New York city. I am planning to visit Beijing in early May this year, and hope to rediscover the city that I used to know.
I've been planning to visit China for the past two years, reading about your trip and the pics you took just great. I'm sure to visit sooner than later, is there a not so busy to visit without the cold? all the best
Great pics! Some pics are hiliarious...I just came back from Kunming, Yunnan too and it's awesome there. Perfect weather just like Southern California. Can't wait to go to China again since it's so affordable compare with Euro vacations. =)
Lisa - fun times! Lovely pictures! New camera? The next time separatism comes up, don't forget to tell our Chinese friends about the 'G.O.N.E.'! Memberships are going fast!!!!!!!!! Bon voyage, enjoy the last week of your trip! Lisa
In ZJJ Village, we stayed at the Minsu Shanzhuang (tel: 571 9188). It was listed as Y288 for a double, but we paid Y80. The Lonely Planet lists it as "generally things are dirty and tacky with old and worn furnishings and dodgy hygiene." They were friendly but didn't speak English, but my friend spoke Mandarin. It was more like a mountain cabin than a hotel, but for the price, I thought that it was good. Sitting on the balcony with a morning coffee, enjoying the mountain view, was great.
