Their reservation system was down...but their staff was surprisingly good about getting back to us as soon as the system was back up and running with our confirmation number. The hotel itself is nothing to look at...it looks more like a motel than a hotel but it is situated right in front of the beach and today we saw dolphins and surfers out there. Our partial view was very "partial" but it did have a view of the pool and beach. The room was cozy but was mediocre...there was a nest of pigeons in the balcony and April got attacked...we'll call the front desk and see what they can do about it. They also have an indoor parking garage...which is huge since the area doesn't look too friendly and there are a lot of people on the boardwalk. Our remote on the TV also did not work...but a simple call to the front desk had a maintenance guy up here in less than 10 minutes. Wonderful service, so far all our needs have been met. Also, there is a restaurant right next to our hotel called World Famous...try the California Omelett - it is delicious. Breakfast right there on the beach overlooking the surfers and people watching on the boardwalk...it was great!!

Beatiful little town with wonderful small shops where you can talk directly with the owners. There were all kinds of things that you can look for - from beautiful custom glass shops, to jewelry shops, to Mexican dresses, you can find anything you wish. We ate at the Cafe Coyote Mexican Grill Restaurant which was beautiful. The service was surprisingly quick even though the place was packed full. We also wanted to do the Trolley around Old Town but got there too late. Make sure you get there between 9am and 3pm for the Trolley ride. We walked throughout the Old Town and April and I thought it was beautiful and very interesting. But we forgot the camera...WOW...big mistake!! Might return just to take pictures...very interesting and beautiful place. It was not crowded at all, but there were people walking around and it was fun.

Quick service and great atmosphere. The food was delicious and they had TVs and our seat overlooked the street, so it was great for people watching. This restaurant is recommended.

San Diego Zoo is wonderful!! And it is BIG...today we made sure to bring our walking shoes, energy, but we didn't get there early. We got to the zoo pretty late...so we took the bus around the park. The guided tour on a bus was great and that took us through 75% of the zoo in about 45 minutes. The polar bear exhibit was great you could see the bears sleeping and swimming in their see-through pool, the nursery where they had a little baby chimp was also great...that little chimp got all the girls oohhhing and aahhhing, and the show was great. At the show they had a cheetah and a dog that did everything together, even slept together and were best friends. The zoo was great!!! Definetely bring the kids here!!

Went through the downtown area and club district - although we just drove through. Both of us are tired from a busy trip and we have to get up early AM for flight back home. There were tons of people out walking around this area. Ton of bars and restaurants and the gas lamps that illuminate the streets give the area its name. This is awesome...beautiful people everywhere. We should go out one night at the club district but we didn't have enough time to do it this time around.

Unscheduled - Tijuana

Notes
We got into Mexico at around 9am (nobody asked to see papers or anything)...all we saw was a sign that said "Bienvenidos a Mexico" and kept right ahead going - no customs or anything. Once in Mexico the clouds turned gray, the streets dirty, and Tijuana made us just want to go back to San Diego. It is dirty, full of vendors jumping on your car...just plain not a good experience. So we saw a sign that said Scenic Road - Ensenada...and we jumped at the chance to get the hell out of Tijuana. While in San Diego one of the waitresses had told us to skip Tijuana and go to Rosarito Beach and Ensenada...so that is exactly what we'll do. Peace Tijuana...you suck! On the way back to San Diego expect loooooong lines to get through customs. The only documents we showed were our Florida Driver's license and that was enough to get us back to the US. I am told this will change soon. Again through the long lines you see the poor Mexican men trying to sell everything and poor women with their babies asking for change. This was a zoo and very sad!!!

Three exits to Rosarito...Rosarito North, Rosarito Central, Rosarito South...we didn't know which one to take. All the exits looks kind of crappy...so we kept right ahead on down to Ensenada. Not impressed although I'm told Rosarito has good surfing

Notes
If you are taking a short trip to Mexico from San Diego...skip Tijuana, skip Rosarito Beach, and come on down to ENSENADA! I'll tell you a bit about Ensenada but first let's talk about the scenic road that brough us here. Mexico Highway 1 scenic road which is a toll road. Plan on spending about $10 to $15 on toll roads for the trip to Ensenada and back to San Diego. There are 3 or 4 toll roads each costing $2.45 (although this changes with currency pricing fluctuations). The road is BEAUTIFUL...you go up and down coastline mountain highways and the whole time you can see the Pacific Ocean...there are various stopping points along the way so you can stop and take pictures of the scenery. I recommend Playa Mision ("Mission Beach" - km 69) where we stopped for about one hour and rode horses on the beach and surf with April. We picked the best two horses and off we went. We rode the horses on the beach and watched the surfers there. Wonderful experience...April loved it!! Then on we went to Ensenada where we walked along the boardwalk and spent $100 on souvenirs from the vendors...it was perfect and just what we were looking for. A calm place to shop from the local vendors. I didn't see much of a beach...I think it is because this is a port city but there were fun bars and definetely good shopping! I recommend Ensenada for your day trip to Mexico from San Diego.

Talk about this trip (4)
This trip is great for the weekend get away. Our weekend get away started from Tampa, FL so we took an extra day for traveling. This four day trip was perfect...saw the best of San Diego (except Sea World, we have Sea World 1 hr away in Orlando) and had a great, although busy time. If we had to do it again...we would spend a night in Ensenada and go see the whales (4 hour trip), we would take surfing lessons one morning, and we would go out in the club district downtown Gaslamp Quarter instead of just driving through it. Those two things are definetely on the agenda for the next trip...well, whale watching might have to be a trip on its own now.

To those whom love to visit California, more power to ya but as for myself, I want peace without traffic and worry about getting mugged. A warm log cabin in the Montana mountains would be so nice with a stream in back to fish for trout and a Big hot-tub on the deck of the cabin when the snow falls down. Hey, I'm a Romantic. Pantry and Icebox filled with good food and selection of wine. Big screen TV (satelite) Oh yeah, almost forgot the fireplace for snuggling wrapped up in a Huge soft blanket.
