A trip from April 25, 2008 to May 12, 2008, travelling to Los Angeles, London

My husband and I are planning a trip to Europe in late April/Early May. We want it to be fun, romantic, and we want to get a sense of the "best" of each area. I am a bit of a research nut when it comes to travel, and I really want to make this trip special for my husband and myself, since this will really be our first really big trip together. We probably will do some typically "touristy" things in the big cities, but we are also looking to take part in some of the things that the locals do - especially when it comes to eating establishments.
Well, slowly but surely I am planning this trip for my husband and myself. I would love to hear opinions and/or suggestions to tweak this trip, making it even better. The cities we are traveling to, and the dates that we are staying in each place, are not able to be changed. Other than that, we are pretty open and flexible.
im planning on going as well, me and my close friends are planning a trip after graduation, ive been to london before but never really got to see much any suggestions?
Hi sax584 - My best suggestions are what we have chosen to do, in the schedule above. Decide what you like the best (history, art, architecture, etc.) and then choose the activities that seem the most interesting.
I'm really excited about this trip - it should be so much fun!
My wife and i are doing almost the same trip a week before you all are, and the one resource you have to check out is Rick Steve's guidebooks and web site. He also has show on pbs. Also he has, for free, downloadable audio guides for the Louvre, Roman Forum, Sistine Chapel, and more on iTunes. If you have an iPod, just take it with you and you have expert commentary as you go.
I am also planning like crazy, you might check out some of the things I've got on our schedule. I've planned nearly every available second it seems. Have fun.
It's so funny that you mentioned Rick Steve's guidebooks - I just received the Italy 2008 guidebook via Amazon 2 days ago! My planning is going slower now, not because I am any less excited, nor am I out of ideas. Unfortunately it is a time issue, but I am managing. And you might have guessed, I like to organize!
I took a look at your trip and I like your trip plan. It actually looks like you are traveling the month after us. I know what you mean about "planning every second," as I do the same thing, only worse. :-) We may need a vacation when we get home from our vacation! I think it will be a lot of fun, for both of our respective groups.
Are you looking for suggestions for restaurants, or are you just going to wing it? I like to have some ideas in place before we go, but the flexibility to enjoy restaurants on the fly, too.
I'd love to get information about Paris from someone who lives in France. Please feel free to post some pointers, what we shouldn't miss and perhaps some things that we can skip.
My fiance and I just returned from a week in London. The London Eye is across the river from Big Ben and The Houses of Parliament. There is a bridge right next to the London Eye that you can take to get to Big Ben and THOP. That way you don't have to leave that area for lunch and then go back after lunch. Just a little tip for you. Anyway, I'm sure you and your husband will have a great time there. If you have time, you must try "Tea at The Ritz". You can get scones and clotted cream all over London, but nothing compares to this experience. If you decide to do it though, you must make reservations. Enjoy!!!
Hey, great tips, thanks! The place we are having lunch on the day we go on the London eye is just over the Westminster bridge, on the London eye side - you are right, walking back and forth would be a bother! Tea at the Ritz is a good suggestion, too. We are currently booked at the Wolseley for tea, because the Ritz might be a little out of our range, but I'll look into it.
