Thanks for your journal. My husband and I have always wanted to take a long weekend thee, and with his 40th birthday approaching, I thought it would be a nice surprise for him. As I will be planning w/o his input, your journal will help a lot. Thanks!!
Your journal was very helpful. I am going to be in Boston in March with some friends and was delighted to see someone on a budget having a great time. Thanks so much!
It really depends on whether you stay in Boston or commute in from a hotel outside Boston. We really scrimmped (i.e. brought some meals with, stayed 45 minutes outside Boston), but splurged when it came to sights. We got away with the whole trip for about $550. I would suspect to add about $150 a night or so, if you stay in downtown.
We were planning to drive to Boston from Georgia this summer for a vacation with our children. Their ages are 12 and 9. Do you suggest? We wanted to do something with them of historical importance, not just take them to the beach again this year.
If you're looking for something historical, I know we were awed by the Paul Revere House, which is down the street from the Paul Revere Mall (Park) and North Church. To see one of the places the US is founded on, in person, was truly amazing. However, knowing kids, they may not grasp the magnitude. After that, I know I would definitely reccomend Fenway, as the history in that place is amazing also. And it's a lot of fun too.
The TV show Cheers is probably too old for them, so Cheers may not be as fun as we had there. The Wharf area may provide some fun, as it was way too cold when we were there. But I'm sure there are some amazing boat rides also.
If you tell me a little more what you are looking for and what kind of things your kids are into, I can probably make a better reccomendation.
i would bring the children to the boston aquarium and the boston museum of science. Both great destinations and both on public transportation. the MOS is right over the river in cambridge and the aquarium is right near Quincy market.
thanks for sharing your trip and pics. my son's high school orchestra will be traveling to boston at the end of the month for the national festives. they will perform in front of the fanuiel hall. the trip includes just about every tour available and plus a chance to see the boston symphony play. all this cram into to a 4 day weekend. thanks again for allowing me to see some of the sites first hand before heading out.
This is really great information. This is going to be a last minute trip for me - I am going as a chaperone/school district representative with students to a trip to MIT. Is there anything in the Cambridge area that you can recommend?
