Actually, the roundtrip ticket that we got was 860 USD each. We bought it in late July/early August. If you go during low/shoulder seasons, you usually will get a reasonable rate. Land transportation is pretty reasonable. I would recommend you get a Spain pass. If you want to have an overnight sleeper with shower like we had, you have to get the 1st class pass.

I reserved all hotels and bed/breakfast (hostal) ahead of time. BTW, hostal is not the same as hostel. You can go to wikipedia and check the definition there. It's quite challenging since I can only rely on information about the hotel that I find on the Internet. For the most part, we are quite satisfied with our selections. I tried several postings with some URLs to the website that provide reservation service for hotels and bed/breakfast. Somehow, they got deleted. This is my third attempt. I wonder if Yahoo is acting like an alien URL gestapo. :-) One can only guess.
