Couple suggestions. There honestly is not much to do in Rome on a Sunday. Make sure that whatever you have planned it's open. Also most museums do not open on Mondays (look into that as well). If you want to avoid a lot of the rush into the Colloseum, consider doing the Roman Forums/Palantine hills first then the Colloseum around 3:00 PM when it's a little slower.
I suggest also getting the Roma Pass, as it includes transportation (Bus/Metro) and 2 free entrances into Musuems/sights. We used them for the Colloseum and Galleria Borghese as they were the most expensive.
Aside from all that enjoy the trip, i just got back a month ago TODAY and i'm dying to go back!
Sorry more suggestions.. make reservations for The Uffizi (lines are more than an hour long!!) and same goes with Galleria del'Academia in Florence. Also Galleria Borgehese (Rome) needs reservations as well.
Glad my suggestions helped. We learned a lot on the trip and we definetly made mental notes for the next time (Make sure to toss those 2 coins into the trevi!! LOL). Definetly we'll use "Sunday" as a transfer day between cities.. and we loved Venice so we'd probably leave Venice for the last because it's more laid back. There's so much to do in Rome that we were exhausted at the end.
If you need anymore help or suggestions don't hesitate to ask! I'll do my best to help since it's still fresh on the memory.
