Alaska 2007 Around The Triangle

Well worth the vist.

Open air market. Large place with good food. Ya, this is where I found the Lynx hat!

Weather: Cool, fog.

Stopped and checked out a lake along the highway in Wasilla. Memory lapse....can't remember the name of the lake! (Oh ya, Wasilla Lake Park) Lots of people on the beach.... :)

Sunshine and warm. Perfect day. 78 degrees.
I got the chance to meet Raymie Redington. Raymie is the son of the "father of the Iditarod" Joe Redington. He was there with his sled dog team. Raymie is a well known musher himself.

Checked out a log house under construction. Almost as nice as mine!

I checked out this place. A lot of old Alaska transportation.

Incredible little town! A lot of early Alaska railroad history. Awesome view of Denali. A lot of picture taking!

This is actually Talkeetna International Hostel. Kind of a cool little hippie hostel. Thanks Holli...you were nice host.

The cruise line operators have a monopoly on this town. Hotels, huge hotels that only operate May - September. I have never seen so many tour buses in my life!

Check out the Salmon Bake....hotspot of Denali!

Went up to Fish Creek turnaround. 8 hour trip turned into 12! Jumped off the bus, did a little hiking and checked out the park. Grizzlies, carabou, black bear, moose and another glimse of the mountain. The weather was very nice. Got back kind of late, so I spent the night at Riley Creek campground which is located at the Denali entrance.

Bus driver of choice, Lee McKelvey, the dude is from Ireland....He knows how to scare the pants off the people from Kansas! Take a bus ride into Denali and you will know what I am talking about!

Soon after I pitched my tent, the neighboring campers came over to let me know that a black bear had passed through my campsite a few hours earlier. A good way to get the evening started! The neighboring campers were from upstate New York, the next morning we took a drive back into the park. Wow did the rain pour....but we got to see a nice sized black bear.

I tried to check out every thing I could see in your town. To the hostess at the visitors center, you are a nice lady. Thanks for all of the information.
