Sounds good to me. Check the train schedules: There is a Denali train that starts service after May 15th and the Denali train to Fairbanks only goes once a day at around 4 PM (it only reports arrival at Denali at 3:30PM). It gets to Fairbanks at 8 PM, but that's the deal. Supposedly it's only 130 miles and takes 2 hours or so to drive, but that's the train schedule. We're going in May and I'm counting the days! I was thinking about running up to Fairbanks from Denali too, but I have very limited time so I might have to skip Fairbanks, unfortunately.
2 or 3 nights in Fairbanks might be too much unless you're going fishing. It doesn't look like there is a whole lot to do there. If your going in April you'll catch the Northern lights, but no train. What time of year is your trip?

Good luck and have fun!!
