This was the most chain-like hotel we stayed at, though it was very nice and the service was great. One of the restaurants in particular, 8 degrees south, was excellent. They will help you arrange things like bike tours, which was a great way to really see some of the backroads and get a tour of local temples and sites.

Also, the hotel changes US prices for massages, but if you walk out to the main road and make a right, you'll happen upon a great little spa/massage parlor. I had the best massage of my life there for $17 (one hour). I went daily!

Be sure to check out the on-site chapel -- amazing!

We happened to be in Bali on one of their biggest holy days of the year. The Balinese went all out and it was a great time to visit and see the festivities in action. Flowers and offerings to the gods are everywhere and everyone is dressed in their finest.

AMAZING pool and the web site does not do this hotel justice. They also have a great store here, where I ended up buying most of my favorite things I brought home with me.

While we were in Ubud, we rented a moped which I can't say I would recommend. It was fun for the few hours we kept it, but probably not worth the risk. The roads in Ubud are small, bumpy and overcrowded with more experienced drivers.

This is not to be missed!! All the tour books warn you to be careful and not even let the monkeys see your cameras. Depending on your level of comfort, it's a lot of fun to not play it so safe. We bought bananas and had a great time feeding the monkeys and letting them climb on us. They are pretty harmless.

I'd also recommend going early in the morning. We were the first people in the park on our first visit and ended up going back a few days later in the afternoon. It was swarming with people and not quite the same experience when it was quiet and the fog was still lifting in the park early in the morning.
