We found a 960 Carat Sapphire at Rose Creek Mine and brough it to a couple of lapidaries before we finally went to Burglens and were told it wasn't really worth cutting. He explained that with color, clarity, and other factors large stones are mostly not cuttalbe and the smaller stones tend to have the best color and look better when pollished. We ended up getting two small rubies cut for a pair of earrings and kept our large sapphire as is. Mr. Kahn is honest and his prices are much better than anywhere else we found in town or in the mines.

Cullasaja Falls is a beautiful falls located along a very dangerous stretch of Hwy 64. The 250' falls and cascades is viewable from the road, but there's only a small pull off area suitable for 2-3 vehicles. You may notice a steep path leading down from the roadside viewing area. It leads down to the base of the falls and you need to be part mountain goat to attempt it. Only the bottom part of the falls is visible, but it's fairly impressive. In heavy water flow, the spray and gushing water would make conditions at the base very dangerous.
