We've decided to go to London since it's a city that neither of us have spent much time in (I was only there for about 16 hrs total during my last trip to Europe and Alex has never been...) and that we are both interested in exploring. We're hoping to take our time exploring the city and are also thinking of doing some day trips to Paris, Edinburgh, and Bath.
The Metro is very easy to use and quite convenient. I find it easier to use than the Underground and my French is very minimal. So while you can see what you have planned in a day, you might regret such a short trip.
By chance, we will be staying at the same hotel in London the same time you are there. We will be going to Paris on the 30th and returning the 1st. Just long enough to give my niece a taste of Paris.
We are also considering a day trip to Bath. We will likely go to Cambridge and are deciding between Bath and a boat on the Thames.
Congratulations on the upcoming wedding. We'll be happy to share any of our travel thoughts in the hotel lounge.
Might keep Paris though. Have never been and the day trip package that we could get through British Rail would allow for a longer stay than most of the other day trips. We could have dinner in Paris and see the Eiffel Tower all lit up at night... And what if this ends up being our only trip to Europe? Maybe we shouldn't miss out on Paris...
So far, we've got our flight booked (my dad was able to put us on British Air Business Class!) as well as our hotel (Alex's dad was able to book us into the Renaissance Chancery Court for the duration of our stay!). We're hoping to take some day trips to Edinburgh, Paris, and Bath and we'll need to stay the night in NYC upon our return home, so we'll probably take our time and bum around the city a bit before catching a train back home.
