January is the best time to go. I went to the Uffizi on Sunday morning, without booking in advance, and there was almost no queue. Also, I was amazed at the many childrens in museums/art places with their parents explaining them. Really loved that.

A 10 day sightseeing trip of a mother and daughter before the daughter starts a college semester abroad. The cities visited were London, Paris, Florence and Rome.
