We recently attended the wedding of a high school friend of mine on the Oregon coast. We took the opportunity to check the area out in the day before the wedding....
My wife and I have stayed many times at the Adobe. It is a fun place to hike if you go North on the trail behind the motel and reach the expansive beach about a mile and a half away. It is a great place to see the whales on their Northern migration. We watched one for over two hours as we ate dinner in the restaurant. It only moved a few yards North and then it would float back to its starting place and then repeat the maneuver over again. The central Oregon coast is magnificent, but don't miss the Southern coast from Florence to Brookings. It is a much more rugged area and affords one the opportunity to enjoy rocky, windswept beaches with few people. Have fun.
I lived in Eugene,Oregon for five years (1978-1982) and have traveled the Oregon coast from Brookings to Newport....the scenery is quite remarkable. For anyone that makes the trip, I strongly recommend a stop for a delicious bowl of Mo's clam chowder along the way.
A drive along the Oregon coast is always amazing. I have lived my entire life in Oregon and have been everywhere in the state, but there is something special about the coast. I have traveled the entire length a few times. Sure, the water is a bit cool, but I've seen people surf in December in bikinis. And I agree -- get yourself some Mo's.
Got to spend portions of Thanksgiving in a cabin right on the beach in Yachats, and it was just what the doctor ordered. Peaceful, gorgeous, and just plain inspiring.
I, too, love the Oregon coast. I took myself on a road trip to the coast starting in Seattle. Stayed 2 nights in Lincoln, beautiful, and went as far south as Florence where I did the dune buggy tour with a load of kids on a field trip during their summer school break. I've wanted to see Astoria, OR ever since finding out that "Kindergarten Cop" was filmed there. It's just a beautiful area. It was August so getting rooms on a whim is difficult but they're there. I found one in Seaside after searching for most of one day. I would recommend a planned trip to Canon Beach if possible. I hope to do that one day.
My brother-in-law got married there a few years ago. It is beautiful, we go there every time we visit family in Eugene/Springfield. I can never get enough of the Oregon coast!
I lived in Florence, Oregon for seven years and went to high school there. It is an absolutely wonderful and beautiful place to visit or live! I wish I had never moved to Indiana!
