Mackinac Island

A trip from August 26, 2006 to September 01, 2006, travelling to Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, Big Rapids

Driving from Chicago to Mackinac Island. The island is beautiful and so peaceful.

Here is a description of the island from the mackinac.com website:

"Mackinac Island is the truly "all natural" theme park of America. Limited to transportation of horse and buggy, bicycle or foot, surrounded by water, it has escaped the vast changes of time.

Its real Victorian image is preserved and enhanced by a small population of 500 permanent residents and scores of summer residents, maintaining bluff cottages in original state. Families, especially children, love their relatively new found "mobility", exploring the historic, natural beauty of Mackinac Island State Park, honored by National Geographic as one of the ten finest in America."

I grew up just south of this area, the Island is fantastic, the people are great and you can leave your worries at the main land. If you are planning to go to this area, you may want to think about hitting some of the small cities along the west side of the lower penn. I.E. Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and Charleviox. You will not be dissapointed. Happy travel's

This is a great vacation...laid back, no hassles, and no traffic because they have no cars on the island. You walk, ride bikes or horses or take a guided carriage or buggy tour. There is a lot of history here and in Mackinaw City & St. Ignace.
We were on the island over the 4th. GREAT fireworks show on the Straits of Mackinaw with the Mighty Mac in the background.
