@Lori - HAHA... I live in FL, so it's easier for me to get to the port and even get a ride to keep from paying for parking. I also plan to try and set aside some money for when the prices are cheaper.
I was doing this when I was working for myself and when I was working for a corporation. I promise you that I don't have a great job yet, but when I do, I'll surely be taking a lot more cruises and vacations.
I actually didn't get to take a vacation in 2011 and I am really bummed about it, but I'm going to try to make up for it this year. :)
I want to know what you do for a living Iccee in order to be able to take so many trips....lol! We love Nassau/Paradise Island! My husband worked there for almost 4 years so every chance we could my daughter and I went for visits and got to stay for 2 summers there. The people are so very friendly and we made so many friends and although he is back home working again now, we miss it so much and hope to keep going there for a long time to come.
I've taken this cruise out of Port Canaveral on the Monarch several times. The Port is easy to get to, parking and boarding the ship is a breeze. The cruise has 2 stops, one at Coco Cay, an island owned by the Royal Carib., and Nassau. Coco Cay is great, the waters warm, you have access to all types of beach activities, and you get a free buffet lunch on the island. Nassau is a tourist dump. Its dirty, expensive, and criminal activity is just around the corner, you have to be careful! I've told Royal Carib. they should drop Nassau, and spend 2 days at Coco Cay, their response, they'll think about it!. The best part about stopping at Nassau is leaving, there's a midnight sail away party outside at the pool with a large buffet, and dancing! If you watch for sales, the Monarch in Port Canaveral, and the Majesty in Miami, (both are the same size ship, with the same cruise for the most part), have price reductions in the fall, Sept-Dec., where prices fall under $200. a person for a 4 night cruise. A great value. We try to take this cruise 2x every yr., once in Oct., and again in Dec.! These 2 ships are older, they don't have all the activities that the bigger, newer ships have, but they are much kinder to the pocket book! I sailed on all of Royal Carib.'s classes of ships, up to the Oasis class, and even though the Monarch is smaller, and doesn't have all the extra rests., and things to do that the bigger ships have, its still my wife's and I favorite cruise, most likely because of Coco Cay, and because of the prices in the fall!
Wow, I posted this and forgot to ever check back. I wish they would send out an email when a comment is posted so I could reply, but I hope you had a good time and hope everyone enjoys my trips. :)
I was happy to read your review of a weeklong trip to Nassau. I was also pleasantly surprised when I read the name of the vessel you were on, Monarch of the Seas! My wife and I will be going on a three day cruise to the Bahama s on the same vessel next month. Any tips for first time cruisers? (We've been on day trips, and gambling barges, but never real "cruises.")
