Thanks to all who have viewed this vacation plan. So many, I acknowledge all the "thumbs up" and copying. I hope it helps you and planning yours, because that is what it is all about! Enjoy your explorations, as we will too...and share!
live about 30 min from blue ridge parkway. you will need your leather coat if you ride motorcycles, the parkway up to mt. mitchel even in july is very cold
The Fall trip would be spectacular too, Gilbert. Bring the lite-warm clothes for good hiking and view experience! $15 for a 3-day pass through Shenandoah NP on the Skyline Drive.... Blue Ridge Pkwy maybe less volatile in Fall. LOL...$5 yesteryear others...of course the Smoky's are still free!
it's like $5 for a car. at the national park in VA. It is well worth it. definitely check it out and also national chimneys in bridgewater,Va is free. that is a great place to go to hike as well.
You may want to check for restrictions on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I am not sure 5th wheel trailers are allowed. Most of the road is a very narrow 2 lane.
I think I may be going On the same trip as Charles but in the Fall starting in Gatlinburg and ending in Manassas, Va. The leaves will be turning and the temp will be crisp in the mornings and evenings. I have a 5th wheel RV that provides the benifit of lodging and food.
If you go to Johnson city stop in Erwin and ask where the Beauty spot is it's worth your stop. it's right in the middle of the Appellation Mt's and i've never seen any thing so pretty!! I used to live there! Now i'm in In Wis and we have a beautyful state too! come & see us This fall our colors are changes now too, Have a Save trip where ever you go!
8/16/09 - 8 days prior to start. All hotel reservations are confirmed with exception of possible 9/2 stay someplace on the way back to south Jersey. Biltmore Estate tickets also reserved for Day 5, but Monticello, Dixie Stampede and caves are weather dependent at this time. Planned activities and restaurants are just grouped within the date ranges by areas we are staying, at this time. However, may only do some as National Park hiking time will be maxiimized.
