Our Alaskan CruiseTour in May 2008

To take a northbound trip you start in Vancouver and take the inside passage north to Whittier and into Anchorage. To do the southbound trip you fly into Anchorage, leave from Whittier and go inside passage into Vancouver. Which one is up to you and what suits your schedule. We added the land tour into the heart of Alaska and we wanted to do that first so we flew into Anchorage, did the land tour and then went back to Whittier and cruised south into Vancouver.

We are also thinking of trying cruise from Seattle to Juneau via Ketch,
Skagw, etc ports then Victoria to Vancouver. Has anyone done this route
and are there any worthwhile tips?

My daughter and I, a senior citizen, have mad three cruises to Alaska and will be doing it again in August 2011. It is a magical place to visit. Yes, we saw the Dinali peak. It was a very special sight. We recommend Holland America for friendly, lovely cruising. Don't miss the Pinaccle restaurant for a special treat!

Hi Lokyee, first you need to find out at what time you need to be at the hotel to board the bus to the train depot for the train ride to Whittier. I believe you will arrive before 5:30 PM and the trip on the train will take an hour or so. So you may be boarding the bus as early as 3 -3:30 PM. Not sure renting a car would be worth it for those few hours. My advice would be to either walk around town and take it all in or go to the Native Heritage Center or History & Art Museum, like I did. The Museum of History and Art is within walking distance of downtown. If you buy tickets for both it and the Native Heritage Center they provide a free shuttle between them.

I'm not sure what seaway you're referring to, but Cooks Inlet is very close to town and you will see a lot of it on the train ride to Whittier. Whittier, of course, is on the sea and you'll see it on the cruise as soon as you leave port.

There is lots to see and do in Anchorage, so I think you can keep busy for those few hours without a car. Going through the rental and return process will take valuable time away so I would walk around or take public transportation (bus or Taxi).

I will arrive ANC airport at 9am and then get on the boat at 8pm at whittier, AK. What should I do in anchorage plase? I'm thinking to rent a car and drive to seaway... and what's get best please?
