What a wonderful story. Your sense of humor throughout it had me chuckling to myself in a knowing way. My wife and I are fortunate enough to live here (she's from Detroit, I'm from DC)and we also cringe at the Americans who make obnoxious fools of themselves. We were once in a Tuscan hilltown (Can't remember which...I think it was Montepulciano) and one of them blurts out, after looking over "il conto", "COPERTO, I DIDN'T ORDER ANY COPERTO!" I wanted to crawl under the the table. Anyway, I have to get to work. Great story and awesome photos. Thanks, Matt
OMG. The pictures, the wine! Reminds me of my time in Venice a few years ago and elsewhere in Italy just a few months ago. I want to go back! Love that you kept this writen memoir. Beautiful!
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I have a question about taking luggage on a train. Is their room under your seat for a suitcase or do you just put where ever you can find a place? I am going on a 10 day tour of Italy (Rome, Florence, and Venice) with my wife and 2 young sons (ages 4 and 1) in July.
Fantastico! What a wonderful trip, full of surprises, and interesting sights. We will be doing a similar trip arriving in Milano and leaving from Venezia, You have influenced our itinerary in the lake region and back streets of Venezia. What fantastic photos. Thanks this took a lot of work.
