You need to know someone in Hollywood to have fun. The touristy things there are dirty. Shop on Melrose, eat at the trendy, organic spots and see a scary movie in the cemetary, hike runyon canyon. If you don't know someone you are sure to get ripped off and geared towards boring things.
Hello: Well I live in Santa Cruz, Ca. and just to let you know around here there is pently of places, where you can visit, some are just a day trip, for ejm. on one sigle day you can visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium wich is one of the most interestings in the world, also a place nearby is Carmel, beautyful beaches, and and enchanting dwntwn to walk, shop or have a coffe, also, San Juan Bautista is a old town that has a Mission ( is an old mexican church ) is so beautyfull, well I think this only a few great spots, where you can have lot of FUN. Tomass.
Regarding Hollywood. We live in Phoenix, and get away to LA - Hollywood area frequently. After having been there a number of times - you start to know it's good spots. You really have to ask yourself, WHAT, you are going to Hollywood for. I personally, love to Star-scope and people watch. Which ALWAYS, makes Hollywood, a fun place to be! Melrose Avenue has awesome, Hip, places to shop...and people to see. The Nightlife..as long as you plan ahead, is always, an interesting and full experience. Eateries - are some of the best and if you schedule it just right, you may see a star or two at dinner. Check the celebrity watching sites and find out names like the "Ivy" or the bar at the Chateau Marmont.
Overall, though...Hollywood is an Old school, 1950's style - kind of hype town - where old, big $$$ was built around the movie industry. That's the culture there. Personally, I love it.
To recap, ask yourself what you really want to get out of visiting hollywood, and then you'll know if it's for you.
LA is not bad, if you had some one to take you around to the good spots, I would think it could be wonderful. I was just let down by the Hollywood area mostly. When it comes to Calie there is just so much more to see --
Hi Matt, i just got back from my trip to California. I saw a lot of places ( Saratoga,San jose,Los Gatos,Santa Cruze,Montery,Carmel,San Francisco,Napa,Hollywood,Venice Beach,Nevada, Las Vegas. I suggest to stay( Hotel?) in Santa Monica or Venice beach and from there on take a trip ( you can drive this by car along Sunset Boulevard up to Beverly Hills,Hollywood.) Hollywood is nice to visit, a lot of tourist attractions but not a place i would suggest to stay for a week. Btw i'm from The Netherlands and my Fav place was definitely San Francisco.
