Maui Suggested Itineraries from Viator.com

Viator's marketing manager, Liz Pagano, recently traveled to the island of Maui and is still working her way back from the aloha mentality. She wants all would-be travelers to experience the best Maui has to offer, whether this is your first trip or your fiftieth trip to the island.

Day 1: Get Your Bearings

Relax, you're in paradise. You wake up after a long restful sleep. No more airport terminals or check-in lines. You smell Plumeria flowers and hear birds chirping and realize you are 5,000 miles away from any large land mass. The only work you need to do is on your suntan.

After relaxing in the sun and surf get showered up and ready for some Hawaiian nightlife: try a traditional luau, a sunset cocktail cruise or a sunset dinner cruise.

Day 2: Maui by Air

Head to Longhi's in Lahaina for some tasty baked goods, delicious fruit and quiches that are out of this world. Not to mention the coffee, oh yes, I can confirm that coffee does smell and taste better on Maui.

Next get ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: a stunning aerial perspective on a Maui helicopter flight. Here's my promise: these rides will thrill, awe and inspire even the most seasoned traveler.

Day 3: Maui by Sea

Say Humuhumunukunukuapua'a five times fast. It means 'Hawaiian trigger fish', which you're sure to see if you spend any time in the water. This is why you come to the island of Maui, right? Check out the marine scene on a morning snorkeling trip to the famous Molokini caldera, or kayak in Honolua Bay alongside green sea turtles. Looking to gain bragging rights on the surf in Hawaii? Then set aside a few hours for a surfing lesson.

You worked up an appetite today and deserve a delicious culinary experience. I recommend heading to Mama's Fish House for the views, the atmosphere and the food.

Day 4: Haleakala

Talk about doing something different! This bicycling trip down the Haleakala volcano is something you will not forget. Yes you do have to wake up at 2am, and yes it is only 45°F. But you get to see the sunrise on Maui and see the world's largest dormant volcano. Not to mention you can feast your eyes on the Silversword part of the sunflower family and, if you are lucky, get a glimpse of some Hawaiian Nene birds.

If you aren't too exhausted after this morning adventure I highly recommend heading to the paniolo town of Makawao for a hearty meal at Polli's Mexican Restaurant and then to the historic plantation town of Paia for some off-the-beaten path shopping.
