Day One

I will always try to fly JetBlue to New York. Best flight ever.  On time, good snacks and a plane that wasn't sardine can packed.

Arriving in New York, being in New York is always a thrill. Stepping out of the taxi and walking up the stairs of the Waldorf-Astoria is just one of the best places on earth to be. And the W-A itself does not disappoint. Luxury: It's jaw-droppingly gorgeous.  The service is marvelous, too. We got a room with two windows, one with a nice view of St. Bart's.

After checking in, we walked over to PJ Clarke's.  This was kind of a field trippy thing I wanted to do.  PJ Clarke's is the bar that was used in the film "The Lost Weekend." I have a blog that I'm writing--"Oscars in Order with Recipes! (www.maryclaire.wordpress.com) where we just watched the same film so I thought it would be fun and appropriate to visit.  And the food is really good, too. Great burger, even better crabcakes.

After lunch we walked over to the real Bloomingdales store, laughed at the prices over the sunglasses and walked across the street to Urban Outfitters. Got a great pair of sunglasses for only $16. Did a quick walk through of Dylan's Candy Bar. Fun store.

For dinner we cabbed it up to Union Square Cafe. Great meal. Highly recommend.

After dinner it was back up to Midtown for "The Drowsy Chaperone. A great show.  Bob Martin (man in chair) is  a genius. Peculiar theater though; there were several empty rows, yet our row, row G was completely filled. Odd. After the show we zoomed up to "The View" a revolving restaurant on top of the Mariott Marquis. Best. Cosmopolitan.Ever.  Spectacular view(s)  of the city, too.

After that, we were too tired to do anything else. So it was back to the Waldorf for some sleep to get ready for day two.

I will echo the jetblue experience despite the recent 10 hour extravaganzy at JFK.

However, being a native Chicagoan, I will always favor Chicago pizza.

Sounds wonderful - I've been to NY on several ocassions but nevergot the chance to visit like I really wanted to. This sounds like my trip. My sisters (3) and I are planning a trip to NY to see The Color Purple on Broadway starring Fantasia in April. We would like to make it at least two days in a really good but not too expensive hotel near West 52nd. Any ideas?

I'm leaving on a Jet Blue flight tonight, I can't wait!

I stayed at a friends place very close to there (56th) PJ Clarke's has the best burgers in NYC. The only thing you missed in the area was maybe a ride on the Roosevelt Island Tramway. Staying in midtown and missing that is a shame
