After we landed in San Antonio and got to our rental car, we went to go look for a Spurs jersey for Jack. We ended up at North Star Mall. We saw a couple, but he wanted a particular player and these stores did not have it. We decided to have a quick bite to eat there before heading down to the zoo. Although, no trip to San Antonio is complete without driving by the Big Boots off of 410. I remember being facinated by these growing up everytime we came to San Antonio.
So drove down to the zoo. Unlike the Dallas and Ft. Worth zoos, parking is free. We saw about everything, except the Reptile Exhibit. Jack decided he was scared to go inside and I can't say I tried to hard to change his mind. When we were about half way done with the Bird Sanctuary, Jack said..."Daddy, I'm done with the birds". So we headed for the exit a little over 2 hours after we arrived.
We drove downtown, parked and walked through Hemisfair Park and headed for the Tower of the Americas. We rode up the elevator and went up to the observation deck. Apparently it is 650 feet. We walked around outside on the deck and sat down to rest for a little while.
We then headed to Rivercenter Mall to continue our quest for a jersey. Again, we did not find one he liked, so we decided to shelve that idea. We walked around toward the Alamo and took our pictures outside. Jack wanted to go inside, so we quickly walked through. It was very difficult explaining to a 4 year old the significance.
We then walked back to our car and went to the hotel and checked in. We rested for about an hour before heading down to the AT&T Center for the Spurs/Pacers game. We got there a little early so we had to wait around for the doors to open. When we got in, we walked around and one last time looked for jerseys. Since they were twice as much here than they were anywhere else, I decided to pass and just look on ebay when I got home.
We headed to the "nosebleed" seats and watched the game (this picture is NOT where we sat). I had been to games at the old Hemisfair Arena and Alamodome, but this was the first time I had seen the Spurs new arena. We left midway through the 4th quarter when the Spurs were 20 points ahead.
Afterwards we drove back to the hotel since we had an early flight the next morning.
