Day 1 - The Flight

Our trip started out at the Philadelphia International Airport.  Our flight was scheduled to take off at 6:55 PM. We arrived at the airport at 4:10 to ensure plenty of time. Before we left, I grabbed one last taste of home, stopping at a Soft Pretzel stand. After we purchased some magazines we sat and waited for our boarding call. Uh-oh, boarding is delayed 15 minutes. With an already tight connection out of Paris, we couldn't afford for things like this. Once the flight finally boarded, we did not take off. Instead we sat on the runway for almost an hour. On the plane we received dinner and the option to watch several movies. I chose to watch The Holiday, which was very boring and predictable, so I turned it off about 3/4 of the way through. I had a very hard time sleeping, but Jim was able to go right to sleep when they turned off the lights on the plane.

I went on this trip with Shard. We booked the trip on our own using Travelocity. We used the Rick Steves' 2007 Spain book. I highly recommend the Rick Steve's book! It helped us tremendously when we were planning on what we wanted to do every day. The maps inside the book were also a big help when trying to navigate Madrid and Barcelona.
