We checked into the Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf (If you want to be in the tourist district, this is a great location. You are about 1 block from Fisherman's Wharf & about 2 blocks from Pier 39). We headed over to the Wharf & took the ferry to Tiburon & then picked up a hopper from Tiburon to Sausalito & back to San Francisco. Tiburon is a quaint seaside town with a few specialty shops & restaurants. This is not a place you will need a lot of time, but we enjoyed walking through the town & eating tamales at Guaymas. They were the largest tamales I have ever seen. They have three types, pork, chicken, cactus. You can order any one of the three or a combination of all three. I got the combo. The tamales are about the size of bake potatoes. I really liked the pork & chicken, but the cactus were too sweet for me. We spent a couple hours there and then headed to Sausalito. There are lots of shops & sidewalk cafes - did not eat because still stuffed from lunch - well worth a trip. It is just across the Golden Gate from San Francisco or a ferry ride. If you drive over, you do have to pay a $5.00 toll to get back into San Francisco. The cost to ride the ferry is $8.50 ea way per person to Tiburon and $1.50 for a hopper over to Sausalito. The ferry ride is about 30 minutes to Tiburon.
