Arrival in London

Nate and I arrived in London Gatwick Airport, totally jet lagged, around 11 AM. We took the Gatwick Express  to Victoria Station. It was quite expensive but very convient. When we got to Victoria we took out some cash and headed to our hotel, the Luna & Simone Hotel . Luckily, our room was ready for us when we got there.

After freshening up a bit, we headed back to Victoria Station, grabbed a quick bite to eat at The Upper Crust, and bought a all day tube pass, which was quite complicated and there were long lines at the stations. We headed to Shakespeare's Globe theatre to start our tour of London.

The theatre was interesting but a little disappointing. It was cool to see a recreation of what a play would have been like in Shakespeare's day, and to see it from the top (scarey!), but I was hoping to see actors in costume but was dissappointed. I would go back for a play if I was there in the summer.

After visiting the Globe, Nate and I headed to the Tate Modern, which like most museums in London is free (yay!). We had some coffee and a cookie in the cafe before visiting the artwork upstairs. The building itself was pretty cool and it was awesome to see Salvador Dali's Metomorphosis of Narcissus, but some of the other exibits were just a little too modern for my taste.

Next we walked across the Millineum Bridge to St. Pauls Cathedral. That is an amazing church. It was so big and ornate, you could get lost in it, easily.  After taking a quick lap around it and watching the start of an evensong, we headed towards Traffalger Square. On the way, we stopped at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese for a tasty beverage (beer). Traffalger Square was fun but nothing special really.

Finally, we headed home on the Tube. After exiting at Victoria Station we visited the Jugged Hare pub, which we really enjoyed. The bartender was quite nice and we had the top floor to ourselves, while we people watched below. We went to Seafresh for dinner and the fish and chips was good but the shrimp salad was horrid. All in all, a great first night in London.

I think the trip was around $2000/person = $4000 total, not including flights. But we never took a taxi the whole time we were there! We spent our money on food and sights. Sorry I haven't been replying here, I didn't realize people liked my trip :).
