Another trip under the belt!!
We had no idea that the State Capitol of PA would be such a magnificant architectural and artistic treasure.
"The Capitol was designed in the American Renaissance Style by Philadelphia Architect Joseph-Huston (1866-1940), who envisioned the building as a "Palace of Art". Built and furnished at a cost of $13 million, the Capitol featrues paintings, stained glass and furnishings by some of the best artisans of the day - Extract Out of A Centennail Celebration 1906 - 2006, Penssylvania General Assembly
It is really a delight, the tour that we would've taken is about a half an hour long and is free of charge. The tour takes you through some of its most beautiful rooms, Italian in the House Chamber, French in the Senate Chamber and the English in the Governor's Reception Room. Oblivously they don't take you through all the rooms as there is about 600 of them!
We missed the tour however as we ended up at the Penssylvania State Museum. This in itself is really a treasure. There is three levels in the round building. We especially liked the room with exhibition of all the animals that one can find in the Penssylvania State.
The museum is huge so make time for up to 3 hours for it. The "Transportation / Technology" room is a feast for the eager Photographist. With old cars, windpumps, buggies and TV's- to name only a few - one can get quite creative with the Photographs. Their fossil department hosts a dinosaur "like" fish as well as a T-Rex.
The rest of the afternoon was used strolling in the Capitol Park and taking pictures of nearby Churches and Landmarks. There is so much to see and do and we would definitely go back to see the rest of the Capitol!! As in the words of President Theodore Roosevelt : "This is the handsomest building I ever saw!!!"
