So it has been our second week in America since our arrival - exactly a week ago. After doing much research and not wanting to drive too far, we decided to go through to Lancester about a half an hours drive from were we are staying in Robesonia.
The drive itself was pleasant, with beautiful landscape scenes and quant little antique shops. At arrival at the Amish Farm House you get a little disappointed as it is right next to a huge Target Store - one would almost expect the Amish Farm to be in a remote area.
Ater paying $7.50 each we waited about 15 minutes for the tour. In the mean time we went through to the gift store. All the gifts there were handmade by the Amish themselves.
The tour that lasts about 30 minutes - were very informative and the tour guide definitely knew what she was talking about. She gave us relevant and very interesting information regarding the Amish way of life, culture and traditions.
The Tour wasn't over however! One could then go to the Farm Yard and see various animals, this is quite nice for kiddies. There were also rides on buggies available for the adventureous. Just as well we were close to a Target and a few other stores as lunch time were upon us.
Bird-in-hole was the next town we stopped at. We went to their local market (similiar to a flea market), Amish Buggies road the streets. We even saw an Amish go through a Drive Through ATM!
After a stunning day wetook a drive through the Country side and it is amazing on how many Amish there are, with just over 21 000 in Pensylvania alone!
coming from Laurel, Md.
Any advice, tourist book was not any help. Perhaps you could give some insite.
