New York

Jo and my first stop was to New York , New York . New York City was only 82.11 miles from Wintergreen school, so we didn’t need to stop on the way there. We took off in our Honda Insight at 8:30 am and arrived in New York at 10:18 am. We stopped off at our hotel the Millennium, and rested there till 11:00. Then we went shopping!

Our first stop was the giant Toys “R” Us in Times Square . We left our car at the hotel since it was easier to walk through the city. Jo said that she only came to New York City for premiers and books singings and was trilled to actually get to see the real city. As we stepped in side the store Jo gasped at the actual Ferris wheel inside the store, “I’ve never seen anything like it before” she said.  We went on the Ferris wheel once for $20.00. There were some really cool displays; I liked the Barbie house the best while Jo liked the Harry Potter display.  We stayed at Toys “R” Us till 1:00 then we went to Little Italy for lunch.

Jo got a calzone, for lunch, and I got spaghetti. For desert we each got a cannoli.  Jo and I then headed to the Empire State Building . Jo was even more impressed by this building then Toys “R” Us. “The Empire State Building was built during the great depression. It was built for a contest between two people to see who could build the tallest building. Four and a half floors where built a week and it started being built on March 17, 1930.” Droned the tour guide had droned but Joe seemed entranced, and listened to every word. Finally we reached the observatory and it took my breath away. You could see the whole world from up here, it seamed. We hugged our jackets close as the cold wind blew. Since we were up at such a height altitude the wind was stronger, and became a lot chiller. We stayed at the Empire State Building for 2 hours, and each of our tickets cost $18.00.

It had been a long say so Jo and I decided to back to our hotel. On the way there we bought some honey roasted peanuts and two large salted pretzels (which came out of our daily $150.00 for food and lodging).  We discussed the adventure filled day. “I liked eating lunch in Little Italy the best because it was like a whole different world compared Times Square .” Jo said “Well I liked the Empire State Building the best because it felt like I was on top of the world.” I said. Then we looked at all the pictures we took on our digital camera.  We decided to get some rest for our next stop to Washington D.C. so we went to sleep at 8:30 and that was our wonderful day in the Big Apple!
