New Journal Entry

Day 1 - Around 8:30am, leave for Greenwich Connecticut.

Get to Bruce Museum before it opens at 9:30.

Check out the Jan van der Heyden exhibition.

From there, head to Bridgeport CT.

Get to PT Barnum museum around 11:30.

From there go to Hartford CT.

First stop is the Wadsworth

-take a guided tour, check out Dali painting, Chagall

Next stop, Mark Twain's House

about a 10 minutes drive from the Wadsworth.

Take a tour of the house.

Walk over to Harriet Beecher Stowes house, which is right next door.

Head over to the Best Western hotel in East Windsor, CT.

Day 2 - Leave at 9am.

Get free breakfast at hotel. Some toast and coffee.

Drive to Springfield, MA.

First stop is the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Then go over to the Springfield Art Museum.

Dr Seuss Sculpture Garden at the Museums.

Then drive to Amherst, MA

First stop is the Yiddish Book Center.

-watch short film, check out the exhibits, some yiddish films (a yiddish fiddler on the roof film from the 30's).

gift shop.

Next stop is the Eric Carle Museum.

watch a 30 minute film there on the art of Carle.

-a wizard of oz exhibit

Then head over to Emily Dickinsons house.  Take a tour of the house. Tour starts at 3:30.

Alan Dickinson, distant cousin of Emilys gives us the tour. Go out to the large oak tree in the yard afterwards and do some poetry readings.

Then head over to the Meade Art Museum at Amherst College. An exhibition on George Bellows there. Not much else

Final stop is an 45 minute drive to the Best Value Inn in Lee MA.

Day 3 - Check out of hotel.

Head over to the Edith Wharton house on The Mount.

First person at the museum. Tour the house.

From there go to last stop of the trip, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, about 5 minutes from the Wharton house.

Check out the museum, take a guided tour with about 50 others, check out Rockwells studio.

Start heading back to NY.

Thanks for this trip! I would have added two of my favorites the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, and the William Chester French museum (in or near Stockbridge and Norman Rockwell Museum). You've given me much more to explore.

Open the loop to include the CT River; many art galleries and special museums there!

Thanks for the tips and the suggestions. I had a great little 3 day road trip checking out all these places, I wouldn't mind doing something similar and adding some new stops.

You sound like a great traveler. What were your favorite things here? I'm only going for a day or two.

If I had to pick 2 things, I would suggest Hartford, there you can visit the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and Twains house (Stowes house is next to Twains). The other stop would be to the Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge. It's a nice town. The Wharton home is about 10 minutes from the museum. Skip Springfield and Amherst. So basically days 1 and 3, without day 2 on my itinerary.
