After 25 hours of traveling, we have arrived in a town called Cusco. We will stay here until Sunday to get acclimatized to the altitude before we start our 4 day hike to Machupicchu. We spent the day exploring the town and buying some art from a local kid, my Steve Erwin hat, and a journal for my memoirs. We had fun experiences with the Policia, the bank, and some kids on the street. People here are very nice and we could not feel safer. While it is hard to breath right now, we are loading up on Gatorade and Coca leaves to build up red blood cells to gt us ready for our hike.
We listened to Ankarino and bought 2 cartons of Marlboro Reds to use for Bribes, but so far we have not had use for them. Actually we are pleasantly surprised that smoking here is at a bare minimum. Hopefully we will still have good stories to tell of how we put those cartons to use before the trip is over.
It is election time in Peru, so the entire country is dry for 4 days so everyone is sober at the polls. It is mandatory to vote in Peru, so our hike is being delayed 3 hours while our porters vote. That sounds cool, but we need to make up those 3 hours with our legs, or we have to camp the first night off trail, and you know what that means...pooping in the woods!!! Amy better get her but into gear on Sunday!
We have over 3 weeks left, so hopefully we will update more, but for now, enjoy your PS3s and know that we are safe, excited, nervous, scared, tired and yet having the best time of our lives. We love it here in Cusco, it is like being on another planet.
