I was attending an expo and conference in Las Vegas . I did not want to travel alone so I asked my daughter, who is not yet 21, to travel with me. I am not much of a gambler so this worked out well.
We arrived at McCarran 10:30 PM on Monday night. It has been 4 years since I was last in Vegas and I was pleasantly surprised by the changes at the airport. It used to look like a casino with all the slot machines in the terminal. Many of the slots have since been removed. Although not all of them so you can still gamble in the airport. If you are taking a red eye this is a good thing as there is definitely less noise now.
We arranged our transportation to the Excalibur hotel by shuttle bus. Buy round trip tickets as they are cheaper. Call the day before you leave to arrange your pick up. Keep in mind that you are not going to be taken directly to your hotel. There can be anywhere from one to five stops along the way.
We checked in the Excalibur. I had originally made pre-paid not refundable/changeable reservations. Then I added an extra night through the Excalibur web site. When I explained this and asked if we would have to check out and check back in, I was told that this was not a problem and it was not. We checked in and had the same room for the whole stay. The room was nice. Our view was from the back side of the tower. We could see the gold lion at the MGM Grand.
We were not tired as we had slept on the flight and went to check out the Excalibur. Since my daughter was not yet 21 years old we could not check out the casino. Everything except food court was closed. We grabbed a bite in the food court and went back to our hotel room.
