Loaded up the car with our stuff and finally hit the road at 12:20 pm. As we set out, the weather was nice and sunny and stayed that way all the way to Redding, CA. Drove along 680 ->80-> 505 -> 5. Most of the drive was through flat lands. Saw some spurts of lovely colored fall foliage on trees on the last stretch of 680 and on the 80. Stopped for gas somewhere along the 505. By this time stomachs were a rumbling. So we had our lunch there too - in some parking lot near the gas station. Lunch consisted of delicious qeema sandwiches and water.
The drive along highway 5 was uneventful. Flatlands again. Could see snow-covered Mount Shasta is the distance and also some other snow capped mountains which would perhaps be the Lake Tahoe area???
Reached Redding after dark around 6-ish and checked in to the motel. Moseyed out for dinner and ended up at Denny's which was nearby. Their grilled fish (tilapia) was really good.
Returned and then decided that sightseeing the next day would involve two items - a guided tour of the shasta caverns and maybe a trip to some nearby waterfalls. McArthur Burney falls were axed since we may not have any time for the long drive there - specially if the weather turned bad.
Your day 1 &2 journel was interesting to read and useful. I am planning to make a simialr trip. Could you share the rest of the journel if you can, so that it will be more useful to me.
Thanks,
Kanda
