If we were to travel to San Jose CR again, we would definitely choose to stay at the Hotel Grano de Oro. We tried several hotels in San Jose and Grano de Oro was by far the best quality for a reasonable price. The price is about the equivalent of staying at a Holiday Inn in the USA but the quality is more like a higher-end Hilton or Marriott.
would like to receive vacation travel package deals for 2 adults. I see alot of nice places, but no prices. Thank You! looking for something all exclusive.
Hi. Your pics are beautiful. We're going to Jaco in October. We were thinking of renting an all wheel drive for the week or should we just use a tour guide? Thanks.
justintten - the Caribbean has a much different feel than the Pacific side, so it depends on what you're looking for (in other words, it's hard to say one side is better than the other).
twoharts101 - I would recommend renting an all wheel drive if you don't plan to drive in San Jose at all. If you're going to Jaco, you should take a tour guide or flight to Jaco and rent the car there. I can't imagine a European, American or Australian doing well behind the wheel on the streets of San Jose since it is such a different style of driving.
Great trip and fantastic photos. I was looking at a trip to San Jose, Arenal, and Monteverde with a rental car. I would be traveling alone. How would you rate the safety concerns on a relative basis?
Vince - I would not recommend renting a car in San Jose unless you were renting it from the airport and going straight to Arenal and Monteverde. It would definitely be difficult for a foreigner to try and navigate the San Jose streets. Outside of driving in San Jose, you don't need to worry about any unusual safety concerns.
