Hotel Grano de Oro

If we were to travel to San Jose CR again, we would definitely choose to stay at the Hotel Grano de Oro.  We tried several hotels in San Jose and Grano de Oro was by far the best quality for a reasonable price.  The price is about the equivalent of staying at a Holiday Inn in the USA but the quality is more like a higher-end Hilton or Marriott.

Costa Rica is my country and I love it, I miss my family, I have traveled all over the world, but I haven't found the a happy, genuine heart and smile as the ones that the CR people express.
It is sad to see american with lots of materials, but not happy inside.

Avoid San Jose if your are thinking to rent a car.I,m from Costa Rica and travel every year with my family to spent our vacations over there, petty much is plenty to do everywhere you want to go but please use comon sense DO NOT carry expensive items on your bare hands eg:watches, cameras, gold jewelery, etc be aware all the times, when exchanging currency go to any bank if available, dont do it in the street is really dangerous.Costarican people is very nice or Pura vida! but like almost everywhere some people don't care and will do anything in order to get it not the amount.
Remenber comon sense is all you need.
have a safe trip PURA VIDA!COSTA RICA!NO ARTIFICIALS INGREDIENTS!

If you do rent a car, I highly recommend renting a GPS. About $10-12 a day.
