Next day drove to the Peak district (for you Pride and Prejudice fans) absolutely beautiful countryside!! Buxton is the place to stay while there, we spent 3 days there, central location, friendly and charming! We stayed at the Palace Hotel.(kids visit the Owl Wildlife Park and Underground Cliff Cavern) Our second day we spent at the Chatsworth house.(Mr Darcy's house in P&P w/Keira Knightly) Haddon Hall is also closeby to visit. We checked out of hotel early on the 3rd day and drove back to Chatsworth for country fair. You get a real taste of the English countryside in all its splendors, riding/hunting horses, falcontry, canine retriever skills, arts, crafts, food, a must if you can be there during this country fair.
After three days in the Peak district it was on to London for another three days. The drive was'nt bad until you hit London. (drivers nightmare) After many unsuccessful tries once in Londons heart we flagged down taxi and followed him to our hotel. We stayed at the Holiday in Mayfair, steps from Piccadilly street and St James Park. Lots going on there, Tower of London, V& A, Buckingham Palace, Westminster. I suggested getting the tourist bus pass(big bus co.) so that you may take in alot if you only have a few days.
AT the end of our 3rd day in London we headed to Salisbury. called on our way down to resv a bread & breakfast for one night. The one we originally wanted was booked but they let us know a nieghbor had her B&B available. I'd rate it a 3, it was fine for one night but wouldn't want to stay there any longer. Salisbury is only a 1-2 day trip anyway. Rose early to see the great cathedral, Wilton House (Madness of King George, Sense & Sensibility) then head to Stonehedge. (my second visit it site). We left Stonehedge around 2pm and drove back to Manchester, checked in hotel for evening and returned car early in the morning, and hopped back to Los angeles. Great first time visit to the UK for my son, first time visit to the UK countryside for me and husband.
