Day One

ImageImageThe trip from the airport to the Neuschwanstein Catsle is a bit lionger than we antcipated and the mechnanism for visiting the castle is more contrived than one would wish. You must arrive early and expect to wait. The bus system to the top of the mountain is somewhat haphazard and theImage walk up is streneous. They then make you wait for you Imageassigned Imagetime and then move you into a holding pen. In the end it is a bit like managing cattle. However the castle itself was worth the trip and the rooms inside are astounding. Very incredible structure and make up. The view from all the castle rooms are incredible and the rooms themselves (what are finished) are eye popping. Although the tour itself takes less than 35 minutes. Getting in to do it and then getting back down the mountain took 3-4 hours.

The town below is a tourist trap to say the least, even charging 50 cImageents to use the toilet. Having said all of that it is still not to be missed thing to see.

The drive through Austria to Garmisch was nothing short of spectacular as well.

The alps are indeed a thing to see before ones death.

Talk about this trip (10)
Hi, I noticed you talked about paying 50 cents to use the bathroom. I noticed when we visited Berlin that this is the case in almost any German city. However, its worth the price to me, as I noticed that the bathrooms...everything really in Germany is SPOTLESS.

Wish I could say the same, the bathroom was much less then clean.

I've been to all these places various times. It's a great trip! Be sure to go to Hohenschwangau, the residence next to Neuschwanstein, as well. I went to Garmisch in the winter. It was the coldest winter they'd had in 100 years! Coming from California's hot climate, it was rough for me. Ettal was very nice. An addition? Visit Augsburg. It's about 45 minutes northwest of Munich. It's a historical place to visit, and for a cheap but clean stay, get a room at the restaurant Wienerwald in Haunstetten (an area of Augsburg). Single rooms were 23 Euro and doubles were 43 per night. The building looks like nothing from the outside, but the rooms are nice. Breakfast is included at the restaurant daily.

i'm planning to take a trip to munich, i was just wondering how much did your whole trip cost?
Well for us it was a dual trip part business part pleasure.

The costs worked out to be about the equivalent of $3000 or so.

Airfare since though has gone up a bit.

When i went to Germany you had to pay 50 cents for ketchup packs at the mickey d's. American food always seems to taste funny in other countries. I fall in love with the Neushwanstein. I was six when i went. I got to climb over the ropes and look under the canopy of King Ludwig's bed.
