Spring in Central Oregon offers the outdoor enthusiast ever-expanding choices of activities. The snowcapped peaks and clear blue skies allow limitless opportunities for exploring the back county on snowshoes or gliding peacefully along groomed trails on cross-country skis. Snowmobile riders can enjoy a 560-mile network of groomed snowmobile trails, and sled-dog rides at Mt. Bachelor can be arranged through the Oregon Trail of Dreams. Guided adventures including moonlight snowshoe trips and spectacular scenic flights are just a phone call away.
And then there is GOLF! By mid-April, nearly all of the 25 local golf courses in Central Oregon are open and in full swing. No wonder Golf Digest ranked Central Oregon as 23rd in the top 50 best golf destinations in the world. Springtime events start gearing up beginning with Spring Break. Mountain bikers ride the extensive trail system in the Deschutes National Forest as they get in shape for the annual Pole Pedal Paddle competition in May. This event draws over two thousand athletes from all over the world to ski Mt. Bachelor, ride part of the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway, and kayak the wild and scenic Deschutes River near Bend. Festivals and other special events draw visitors and locals to the area’s many parks and resorts. Rodeo season’s star attraction is the 63rd Annual Sisters Rodeo in June, and the area hosts both professional and amateur events.
River rafting season begins and the thrill of whitewater in Central Oregon’s rivers beckons. With Summer approaching the sun thaws the vast number of hiking trails in the mountains and Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Spring flowers bloom along the rivers and lakes.
