Trip Information

This amazing drive will take you through the many worlds of Southern Oregon, including the coast, high desert, and mountain lakes.

From Interstate 5 (or enter the Grand Tour at any point), travel from Medford on Highway 62 to Highway 140 towards Klamath Falls. Enroute, Highway 140 intersects with the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway All American Road at the Rocky Point/Fort Klamath Junction either taking you north to Crater Lake or continuing south to Klamath Falls and the north on Highway 97 to Chiloquin and follows Highway 62 to Crater Lake National Park. Leave the Park by the "North gate" via the "route of the Waterfalls", Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway, Highway 138 pass Diamond Lake and descend alongside the North Umpqua river, past some of Oregon's most spectacular waterfalls.

Stop in the new Roseburg Welcome Center for an Orientation, then headnorth on I-5 until exit 136 Sutherlin and west on Highway 138 to Elkton and Reedsport, home to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. South on famedHighway 101 - the Pacific Coast National Scenic Byway,through coastal forests and along the best beaches in Oregon. Enjoy Bandon by the sea, a charming coastal village with scenic Bandon loop drive. South to Gold Beach & the mouth of Oregon's mighty Rogue River. Rafting, fishing, and Jetboat tours to the wild and scenic sections of the Rogue River are superb natural experiences.

Brookings - Harbor is another 30 miles south and home to charming harborside shops and restaurants

The route heads south to North Bank road cutoff and California's Highway 199, the “Redwood Highway”, which follows the pristine Smith River and takes you back into Oregon.

Discover Cave Junction with the Oregon Caves National Monument and thebeautiful Illinois Valley. Hwy 199 will bring you to Grants Pass, home to Rogue River rafting and Jetboat tours, and back to I-5.
