Transportation in Spain
People have told me about domestic flights within Spain is cheap, but I was still in for a shock when I checked prices today. First of all, there appears to be 4 airlines that serve domestics flights within Spain (at least between Barcelona and Granada):
- Iberia, the biggest airline in Spain
- Spanair, another domestic airline
- Vueling, a low cost alternative to others
- Air Europa, ???
The cheapest fare was actually 26 EU from Barcelona to Granada!!! 2 - 6! That's about $30 for a 1 hr 20 min flight. I don't think I have ever heard of prices that cheap in the states, even for nearby flights like from LA to San Diego, or LA to Vegas. Unfortunately, it so happens that the flight time does not quite match our schedule, so I think I am still sticking to the overnight train, which is 76 EU for the cheapest sleeper bed. Oh well, at least now I know.

And after a bit more research, I found air fare from Barcelona to Sevilla to be even cheaper, 20 EU!!! That's like $24 for a 1 hr 30 min flight. That's just ridiculous. But I am still sticking to my original schedule because if I take the flight from Barcelona to Sevilla, that means I have to take the train from Granada to Madrid, which is a 6 hr day time trip that's a total waste of valueable time. Please the other option involves taking an overnight train, which recoup some of the cost by avoiding a night at a hotel.
Oh yeah, there is a spanish airfare search engine at http://www.opodo.es. It seems pretty good.
