We boarded the puddle jumper in Wichita and flew to Chicago. After a couple hours, we were on the way to Maui. Nine hours on the plane with no meal service. United Airlines sucks. We did bring on some lunch. Brandie had a couple of cheeseburgers from Billy Goats (of SNL fame) and I had a pizza from Pizzeria Uno. She was asleep shortly thereafter. I put my headphones on, turned on the iPod, and soon joined her. We arrived in Kahului none too soon.
We had a motorcycle reserved for Tuesday morning, so we rode to the hotel with Nate & Kristen. After checking in and settling in, we got together with them and went to dinner at Moose McGillycuddy's in Lahaina. The menu reminded me a lot of Montana Mike's. We all had burgers. Very good and reasonable prices, especially for Maui. The girls had Bahama Mamas and we had Planter's Punch. There's a lot of 151 rum in there, and we had 3. I was pretty dizzy when we left. I was kind of glad Nate was driving.
We explored the resort a little more, then hit the sack.
This would be an educational experience for kids that would be so fun, they wouldn't even realize they were learning. The Road to Hana is packed with places to stop and explore the eco-system. The drive up to Haleakala could be done in the daytime, or you could stay longer and hike the crater. The Pacific Whale Foundation tours and the Maui Ocean Center are also great fun while being educational. With only five days, we didn't get to everything on the island. We picked and chose the places that looked most interesting to us. I'd love to take my kids there someday.
