We’re going to try and keep an online journal of our trip to Hong Kong . Hopefully, we’ll be able to post something on a daily basis but no guarantees. We’ll definitely have tons of pictures to post online when we get back!!
Well, we leave in 2 weeks for Hong Kong . We should have a full 8 days of taking in the culture and sights. I think we have our itinerary pretty much planned out. The toughest part is deciding what clothes to bring along. So far the weather looks to be in the low 80’s during the day. Which is balmy compared to Iowa at this time of the year.
We should arrive in HK around 4pm in the afternoon but it’ll be something like 2am our time. I think the trick is going to be staying up as late as possible that first night and getting at least 10 hours of sleep. Definitely not looking forward to the 16 hour long flight. But we’re bringing along a portable DVD player…and season 2 of “24”.
do not charge such fee.
Go see the PEAK TRAM- a nice view of HK; go Macau-outside of HK if you want to see Asia's Las Vegas version of gambling and Portuguese touch;
Go Szhenzhen (a border city) between China and HongKong...if you like to do shopping but you need visa here=you can get at the border but may take time so better have them or you can go on a tour bus they handle everything but careful in Szchenzhen some pick pocket problems. You will enjoy shopping here...world famous! Long long ago, when the DVD here was around $400 and there was $20!
But on some replicas do not buy a lot because our US Customs might confiscate them.. this Szhenzhen city is a manufacturing place and
home of huge factories. China experimented it as an economic zone which prospered because of closeness to HongKong. Huge Walmart there too!
Take the Hong Kong ferry instead of bus...Hong Kong has 2 major island (Kowloon side and HongKong Central side) which you can take this ferry to cross between these 2 islands...very pretty view.
Buying things in Hong Kong..hassle to lower the price...HongKong
businessmen and local business -they are very smart...they jack the price up and up...they say they have in stock even if none then they run to their supplier to get them ...also this street vendors like our flea Market..even if no English...once inside their shops they dont want you to leave -they block your way...so I bargained and bargained...from $150 to 3 for $100...($33 each)
A lot of 7-11 around; a lot of McDonald... 9 of the busiest McDnld in the world is in Hong Kong; Kentucky friedChicken..and almost all US food chains in HK; SO enjoy...i will be in Hongkong Nov 26-30 stopover from China.
Have an incredible time, I can't wait to hear of your travels. Take care!
Laura
Starbucks...the Spaghetti Market...what's next: Perkins? Hey, I know, I know...you've got to ease into the local cuisine, but we're waiting to hear about some wild "Fear Factor" stuff like squid quesadillas or fish eye custard or wild ox feet on a stick. C'mon! Live dangerously for us...while we sit at home quietly eating our mac & cheese.
Looking forward to Big Buddha pictures...
Safe travels and Bon Appetite!

I went to Aggie club for lunch yesterday. Everyone was still giddy over the Ag's nice victory over the 'sips.
I am enjoying your trip account.
We're enjoying your travelogue. And you might check your email for a couple of pictures of the dogs. Lucky's doing fine, and is getting plenty of snuggles. Plus a bit of back yard time and exercise walks in Squaw Creek.
How about you get the hotel concierge to direct you to a great Sze Chuan restaurant. Little bit of hot chinese food never hurt anyone. And Hong Kong has it only in very selected spots.
